Mr. MacCaigh doesn’t just tell sea stories; he has lived them. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 and went to sea at 18. He served aboard a destroyer in combat, and “sailed the seven seas.”

His general quarters (aka battle) station on the “tin can” was inside the forecastle gun—directly below the author photo.

Later he worked aboard a “laker,” (photos below) an iron-ore bulk carrier on the North American Great Lakes. He also crewed on a private yacht.

Along with holding a couple dozen industrial jobs over the years, writing scores of articles and  three novellas, he found the time to earn an honors BA degree in English literature and creative writing from the State University of New York.

This is his first full-length novel.
